I'd like to thank you first and foremost for your service - living in Utah is a great pleasure, due in large part to the contributions of public servants like you.
Education is of the utmost importance to me - I graduated with a Masters degree in Education from Harvard a few years ago and have made it my life's work to improve and contribute positively to education.
I'm concerned about Governor Herbert's recent veto for the funding for the K-3 Early Intervention Reading Program, and I hope you will be able to help.
I understand that the legislature is considering an override of this veto. I strongly encourage you to vote in behalf of continuing this funding.
It's simple - when children can't read, doors of opportunity slam shut. If they do not show proficiency by third grade, it is very difficult for them to progress, let alone catch up. Early reading software coupled with high quality teaching can ensure our students all become proficient readers, setting them on a trajectory for success.
I appreciate the legislature’s interest in improving education for Utah’s children. The K-3 Early Intervention Reading program is making a difference in our schools - it can continue to do so with your help.
