Dear sir, I am appalled that the government is considering enacting a law that will force doctors to practice sub-optimal medicine. No clinical practice guideline prepared by experts recommends the use of anesthesia during a 1st or 2nd trimester abortion. There is overwhelming evidence that prior to the 3rd trimester fetuses are incapable of feeling pain. Medical experts from Intermountain Healthcare and the University Hospital testified about the risks that that S.B. 234 would create for their patients. In complete disregard of these facts, the majority of the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee refused to listen to the physicians testimony and voted the bill out with a favorable recommendation. If this bill passes it will endanger the lives of women. It will interfere with relationship between doctors and their patients by destroying trust- how can a patient trust that the doctor is selecting the medically best option for treatment if instead a bunch of non-doctor politicians are actually the ones making medical decisions? It will not accomplish any good for anyone. Simply say NO to this kind of meddling interference in healthcare.
