Subject: Petition Against Partisan Elections
Date: Fri Mar 06 05:24:39 MST 2015
Dear House Representatives,
Enclosed you will find a petition that opposes partisan school board elections. We are a group of parents who are dedicated to and involved in education in Utah. Collectively we have spent thousands of volunteer hours in our local schools. We were able to gather the 1, 978 signatures on this petition in a matter of days from citizens concerned about the introduction of a caucus system into the school board elections. We encourage you to support non partisan school board elections. This process should be voted on by "We the People". We want candidates to interact with as many parents as possible and not a select few. We want as many candidates as possible to run for school board. If partisan is chosen, this limits those who receive a salary from the federal government. The Hatch Act is in play here and would be unfortunate for many to be disregarded. We also would like the unaffiliated voters to have the option to run as well. We want meaningful cottage meetings, local debates, and open discourse. We encourage you to SUPPORT non partisan school board elections and let it these important decisions come from "We the People". Please vote against any bill that would take away these freedoms.
Thank you for listening. You can find more information below:
