Subject: Please do not eliminate the October 1st enrollment count for charter schools
Date: Tue Feb 10 22:42:42 MST 2015
Dear Esteemed Members of Utah's Legislature:

I sincerely and humbly ask you to keep the October 1st enrollment count formula. I know that funding priorities are due tomorrow, and I ask you to support your public charter schools to ensure equity/parity in public education dollars.

It took several (almost 10) years for public charter schools to come close to receiving equity/parity in education funding comparative to the funding traditional public schools receive.

I fear that moving away from the October first count will only cause funding problems to re-emerge and even widen. Charter schools educate more than 1/10 of the state's public education students. They serve the needs of many students, families, and communities. It's critical that charter schools receive equal funding.

The ADM is a necessary measure, but it should not be the only way of assessing student enrollment and public school funding.

Thank you for your time and considerable service. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Michael A. Westover, Ed.S.
