Call Your Representatives Before Tomorrow's Deadline

Dear Rural Advocates,

Tomorrow is the deadline for Representatives to sign onto Rep. Hinojosa's (D-TX) letter to the President, asking that Rural Development be a higher priority in the upcoming FY 2015 budget.

Please call your Representatives TODAY AND TOMORROW and ask them to sign onto Rep. Hinojosa's letter to President Obama and USDA!

Over the past several years, USDA has proposed drastic cuts to Rural Development programs, including critical Rural Housing and Water/Wastewater programs. In fact, since 2010, the Administration has proposed to cut these programs by over $700 million! At the same time, the need for more affordable housing and basic services in rural and small town communities continues to grow.

So far, 37 Representatives have signed on, including: Brown (D-FL), Blumenauer (D-OR), Bonamici (D-OR), Rep. Brownley (D-CA), Butterfield (D-NC), Bustos (D-IL), Capps (D-CA), Christenson (D-VI), Clay (D-MO), Courtney (D-CT), Enyart (D-IL), DeFazio (D-OR), DelBene (D-WA), Grijalva (D-TX), Hastings (D-FL), Heck (D-NV), Hinojosa (D-TX), Huffman (CA-02), Keating (D-MA), Kilmer (D-WA), Kuster (D-NH), Lujan (D-NM), Lujan Grisham (D-NM), McIntyre (D-NC), Michaud (D-ME), Nolan (D-MN), Pierluisi (D-PR), Pingree (D-ME), Pocan (D-WI), Rahall (D-WV), Ruiz (D-CA), Ryan (D-OH), Schrader (D-OR), Shea-Porter (D-NH), Vargas (D-CA), Vela (D-TX), and Young (D-AK)!

Congressional Targets

Earlier this year, many Representatives wrote to the Appropriations Committee in support of greater funding for Rural Development programs. These individuals are good targets for the letter:

Bordallo (GU), Cartwright (PA), Castor (FL), Cleaver (MO), Costa (CA), Davis (IL), Ellison (MN), Gabbard (HI), Gallego (TX), Garamendi (CA), Green (TX), Hanabusa (HI), Holt (NJ), Johnson (GA), Kirkpatrick (AZ), Langevin (RI), Larsen (WA), Loebsack (IA), Lynch (MA), Matsui (CA), McGovern (MA), McNerney (CA), Negrete McLeod (CA), Sablan (MP), Schakowsky (IL), Sewell (AL), Takano (CA), Thompson (MS), Welch (VT), and Wilson (FL).

If your Representative has any questions, they can contact Holly Bullard in Hinojosa's office at

Thank you for your advocacy,

Sarah Mickelson
