Please VOTE NO on HJR 8, Joint Resolution Proposing a Balanced Budget Amendment to the United States Constitution
If this resolution should pass and the States force Congress to balance the budget they will do it by raising taxes. This will place an incredible burden on the backs of the taxpayers, making the people pay for the mistakes of Congress and their out of control spending habits. Raising our taxes, especially this high, is an abomination. Do you think you can trust Congress to balance the budget responsibility when instead of adopting a budget they just raise the debt ceiling?
Many legislators, including members of leadership, have said that it is okay to raise taxes to balance the budget. They said that maybe raising taxes will upset the people so much that they will get mad enough to vote to get rid of the congressmen. Even if we were to get rid of the current congress, our taxes will still remain high with the new balanced budget proposal in place.
Congress has ignored the Constitution for years, which is why we are in such dire straights. Why would they abide by a constitutional amendment when they don't abide by the actual Constitution? Are we willing to do something so risky just to have congress continue to ignore us. It is time to stand up for state's rights. Until we are willing to just say no the Federal Government nothing will ever change.
Please read Article V of the US Constitution:
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or,
on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention
for proposing amendments . ..
That is all it says -- Congress shall "call" a convention. This lack of direction leaves it wide open for interpretation by Congress so that they can control the rules regarding who and how the delegates are chosen and more. This is NOT a good thing and yet, more and more legislators are being convinced that they can control a convention because they believe that the legislators will control the rules.
Worst-case scenario, Congress controls the rules for an Article V Convention,
second worse-case scenario the Courts decides.
