Feb 10, 2014 Representative Lee Perry State Capitol , Suite 350 350 North State Street Salt Lake City, UT 84114 Dear Representative Perry, I am writing to ask that you support school readiness and vote YES on HB96. I know you are very busy, but it is vital that you read this. I am writing to ask that you support school readiness and vote YES on HB96. You need to help us inform every legislator that this initiative is not--nor has it ever been--a mandated preschool program. This only provides more options for parents and families statewide, especially those that are at-risk and aren't afforded the opportunity to stay at home with parents. High-quality preschool is a proven strategy that changes the odds for at-risk children who lack opportunity. Participation in a high-quality preschool program is voluntary, and ensures these children enter kindergarten on-track with their peers and reach proven benchmarks. Without high-quality preschool, a child is more likely to be put in special education, drop out of school, be arrested for a violent crime, and never attend college. They become a burden on society and taxpayers, but we can change it! HB96 has a fascinating pay-for-success model that will offer an innovative way to partner with the private sector, increase the number of at-risk students who can access high-quality preschool programs, and ensure that children are ready to learn. I encourage you to support this CRUCIAL legislation for our kids, our communities, and for the future of our state. Please don't let the opposition mislead you and other voters about the facts. The data for high-quality preschool is there. It really works! Sincerely, Mr. Timothy Harrison 480 N Wall St Salt Lake City, UT 84103-1787
