One of the many reasons why people develop problems with drugs and alcohol and end up seeking help from rehab centers is because they mistakenly believe that these substances are safer than they actually are. For example, it can be quite common to hear individuals say that they feel it is safe to take many prescription painkillers because they are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or that it is fine to drive after smoking marijuana because it is not as dangerous as being intoxicated.
