At the YWCA Utah, we believe safety is at the heart of empowerment.

Alexa* and her children came to the YWCA  after emergency responders to a 911 call found the family living in a single room where Alexa had been subjected to physical, verbal, sexual, and financial abuse. The abusive partner was arrested, the space was condemned, and Alexa and her children were referred to the YWCA's crisis shelter.

Once at the YWCA, Alexa began to heal and set goals for herself and her family, and her children worked with child advocates to reclaim their childhood. Alexa's oldest children are active participants in the teen program and are making friends outside of school for the first time; her middle children have participated in safety planning and are focused on building trust; and her littlest one often spends time with the caregivers at Emma's Playhouse at the YWCA.

Alexa and her family are working to transition to stable housing and are grateful for the YWCA's caring staff, who have been a source of comfort and encouragement. Above all, the family is thankful that the abuse has ended.

This holiday season, if you believe that all families deserve a safe place to call home and lives free from violence, please give generously to the YWCA.

Thank you.
