KSL features BIAU!

Dear Dean,

This Thursday we are celebrating Brain Injury Awareness Night with the Orem Owlz! Will you join us? This week I was honored to be featured on KSL news radio, and talk about the upcoming game, as well as the importance of brain injury prevention. Check out the article below. We also have a great article about Jillian Dingee, the Orem Owlz Assistant General Manager, and her personal reason behind working with BIAU for "Brain Injury Awareness Night."

OREM - Members of the Brain Injury Alliance of Utah will suit up with the Orem Owlz to take a swing at dealing with brain injury by providing information and resources at a game Thursday.

The baseball game is meant to be educational and will give fans more information about traumatic brain injury (TBI) and resources available to treat brain injury survivors.

"We have an individual who suffered a brain injury who's going to throw out the first pitch," said Ron Roskos, the Executive Director of Brain Injury Alliance of Utah. "We have an individual who works in the brain injury field who's going to sing the national anthem." Read more!

" Averting Disaster and Helmet Safety"
By Sarah Johnson

For Jillian Dingee, Assistant General Manager for the Orem Owlz baseball team, celebrating"Brain Injury Awareness Night," is more than a chance to work with another non-profit. It is about a personal family victory that includes her father, Don Dingee, avoiding the worst possible scenario, a serious brain injury in a bicycle/auto accident.

During a twelve mile ride in Chandler, Arizona, Don donned a bicycle helmet, as he always did as he rode on a familiar, flat loop. Throughout the ride he stayed in the bike lane, kept his helmet securely fastened, and was enjoying the day. As he came to an intersection, a driver made a right hand turn, not seeing him.  Disaster struck as Don splattered onto the hood of the vehicle, and rolled onto the pavement.

In describing his accident Don Dingee recalls, "The brain bucket was still attached to the rider when he came to on the pavement, and fortunately there were no major leaks."
