My name is Terry Wayman. I strongly urge you to vote against SB112 which would make cockfighting a felony in Utah. Senator Davis has wrongly stated that these birds are "forced" to fight. That is absolutely NOT the case. You CANNOT force a chicken to fight. It is a natural instinct they have. Senator Davis also wrongly stated that these birds are locked up or tethered to "train them" to fight. Again this is NOT the case. They are locked up or they will instinctively kill each other. You cannot "train" them. Senator Davis has never been to a cockfight. He claims it is a blood sport. This is again NOT the case. There are many different breeds of fighting birds and when bred together obtain different fighting styles. Senator Davis showed a "slasher" at committee and told them that that is what is used on these cocks here, in Utah. Again this is NOT the case. The "slasher" is used the Phillipines where it is a national pastime. Senator Davis claims so many things that are wrong because he won't listen to those of us who know. I've tried to talk to him about it but he won't hear it! He said he has the internet to get his information. Please vote against this bill. Both sides of the issue need to be heard and so far only one side is being heard. Almost every point Senator Davis has brought out he cannot back up with facts. Further inspection would bear this out. Please don't make felons out of a tradition that has been around 1000's of years.
