On SB 54 ask yourself:

Does it:

1) Violate the first amendment by requiring parties to have individuals speak for them who have not gone through the designated party nominating process?

2) Does it violate the rights of free association by requiring parties to have individuals who are not members participate in their nominating process?

3) Does the bill increase government regulation by allowing the state legislature and governor to dictate to parties how they select their candidates?

If the answer to any of these is yes, then state legislators have a duty to vote against a bad bill.  Someone may have introduced an initiative which is worse, but that still does not necessitate the government taking away God gifts of freedom and liberty.

I urge you to vote no on SB 54.
