You represent us and our neighbors in the Utah Legislature. We count on you to enact legislation that will benefit all Utahns .
I am concerned that emotions will keep some Representatives from making the fiscally responsible and compassionate decision to expand Medicaid.
We have already sent our federal tax dollars to Washington. It’s madness to refuse to accept $400,000,000 of it back to help needy Utahns. That’s a lot of money! Do we really want to send our taxes to help other States when our own needs are unmet? The choice is whether we reach even deeper into our own pockets to help our own medically needy or, do we just turn our backs on our unfortunate and pretend they didn’t exist. I’m not against helping other States with problems worse than ours, but I do think it’s folly to exacerbate our own challenges by doing so. That’s double taxation. It makes no sense.
Perhaps it’s never happened in your family, but most of us know someone who has been bankrupted by a single undeserved illness or injury. I pray it never happens too you, because if you vote against expansion today, it may be too late when it happens. I practiced medicine for 45 years and I’ve seen how one’s circumstances can change in an instant.
Please listen to reason and vote to Expand Medicaid with our hard-earned federal tax dollars! A Utah solution can be a responsible solution. We’re counting on you.
