First off, thanks so much for the time spent on our behalf in keeping Utah the great state that it is. I know from being a city council member, that the job is thankless and requires so much of or your time, energy, and dedication.
My name is Laurie Maxfield and I am assisting the Riverton High School FFA Advisor, Sonja Ferrufino, in scheduling times for her Agricultural Issues Team to present their issue to the policy makers of Utah. The FFA Ag issues competition is designed to give students an opportunity to research a current public issue, present both the pros and cons of that issue and then be able show their knowledge of the topic by answering questions. The team consists of seven high school students from various backgrounds of Agriculture who have joined together and will compete in the statewide FFA competition in April. Winners from this competition will then be competing at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
As part of the competition the students are required to go out in the community and present to various groups. You, the policy makers of the State of Utah, are one of the most important groups that the team would like to meet and present to. Your time will help them be able to present your side as policy makers. Presenting and discussing the issue with you will bring them one step closer to being fully prepared for the rigorous competition.
We have reserved room 445 at the Capital this Wednesday, February 26, at 1:00 p.m. where we ask that you drop by and talk with the students and hear their fifteen minute presentation.
