Subject: Please do not pass HB 131 out of committee

I am writing to you today to ask you to not bass HB 131 out of committee. This bill reinforces the use of Utah's Common Core standards (see line 89) and CAT testing laws (see 91-91) while expanding the SLDS collection network (125) and requiring specific data for this network (lines 148-165). Furthermore it gives a third party contractor access to data, including discipline incidents, parental involvement, community involvement,  and many other things (lines 148-164). These are all things I am very much opposed to.

Additionally, this bill forces the board to choose ONE technology provider for a whole slew of devices, instructional materials, software, support, and other things. It is my understanding that normally all these things would be provided by different competing companies, with the best company providing each specific thing they are best for. This is how it should be done in order to get the best services/products at the best price for our schools.

This is a very expensive bill too, appropriating $200,000,000 for these particular things as laid out in the bill, and that probably isn't even enough.

Thank you for voting against this bill.
