Subject: University of Tennessee state legislative survey
Date: Wed Feb 19 23:16:37 MST 2014
Dear Representative Sanpei,
I am writing you as part of the University of Tennessee research team that contacted you a few days ago to request your help for a study of state legislatures. This study is part of a nonpartisan effort to learn more about the legislative process and how representatives go about making public policy decisions. I am contacting both Republican and Democratic lawmakers in different states in order to obtain a variety of perspectives. Chambers have different rules and operate in different contexts, so it is critical that we hear from you.
Your responses to this survey are very important and will help us understand and teach students about the policymaking process and how representatives go about doing their jobs.
I believe this information will be valuable both to academic researchers and to people like you who are involved in politics at the state level. As thanks for completing this survey, I will provide you with a summary of my results in the hope that you will find them useful.
Your answers are completely confidential. Your name will never be placed with the questionnaire itself, and any responses that are released will be released only as summaries, so no individual’s answers will be identifiable. Your participation is voluntary, and you may choose not to participate at any time. However, by taking a few minutes to share your experiences and opinions, you will significantly contribute to our understanding of representation and policymaking in the states. If for some reason you prefer not to respond, please let me know by returning this email with a request for your name to be removed from our list.
To take the survey, please use the link below:
By completing the survey, you are consenting to participate in the study. If you would prefer to complete a paper copy of this survey, please contact me with your mailing address and I will send you a questionnaire and return envelope right away. The survey should take you about 10-15 minutes to complete. Please complete it by March 14th if possible.
If you have any questions or comments about this study, I would be happy to talk with you. Please contact me using the information below. If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant, you can also contact Brenda Lawson at the Institutional Review Board for Human Subjects Research office by phone at 865-974-7697, or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you in advance for your participation!
