Most major construction activities will begin winding down this month. You will continue to receive this email update until the end of October and then they will resume in the spring. Please visit the UDOT Traffic site for updates on any UDOT construction you may encounter in the interim.

The following are planned activities for the coming week throughout Region 3. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
S.R. 92; Improvements

Construction crews have opened the eastbound and westbound commuter lanes to the public with the exception of the first westbound entrance ramp at Highland Boulevard. Construction crews are currently working on final tasks for the project, including some rework at the first westbound entrance ramp. This entrance point is anticipated to be open in early winter. Any work remaining on the commuter lanes will be completed at night with periodic closures only as needed. This project will complete final tasks associated with the S.R. 92 improvements and assure the quality of the road.

Lehi City Development

Lehi City continues its residential and business development off of S.R. 92. Please watch for electronic boards or signs messaging city construction activities.  
I-15; Bridge Rehab; Lehi Main Street to 2100 North

Work will be suspended this weekend, and all lanes on I-15 will be open to accommodate heavy traffic due to the BYU home football game on Saturday, Oct. 12. Construction is scheduled to resume on Friday, Oct. 18. This project will provide a smoother ride for drivers and prolong the life of the roadway.

U.S. 89/1100 East Intersection Improvement in American Fork, Utah County

At the U.S. 89 (State Street)/1100 East (North County Boulevard) intersection, crews are working in the shoulder during overnight hours. This work is ongoing Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks. Crews are preparing to install new curb, gutter, and drainage, prior to paving the intersection. The project will ensure a smooth ride for drivers and prolong the life of the roadway. All work is scheduled to take place during October 2013.

U.S. 89/State Street Improvements; Orem to Pleasant Grove

Construction continues on State Street between 100 East in Pleasant Grove and 1860 North in Orem. Earthwork, grading, and storm drain installation are complete, and crews are continuing to install new curb and gutter between 60 North and 700 North in Lindon.

700 South/300 East will be closed at the intersection with State Street in Pleasant Grove, on Saturday, Oct. 12 as crews complete paving. Due to cold nighttime temperatures, crews will continue to work during daytime hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to place new asphalt pavement. Drivers should plan ahead for minor delays due to lane restrictions in each direction as necessary between 70 North and 700 North in Lindon for up to two weeks.
During overnight hours, drivers can expect lane restrictions as well as intermittent delays. This project will widen and repave State Street (U.S. Highway 89) between Orem and Pleasant Grove, with completion scheduled for later this fall. The project will improve traffic flow and provide a smoother ride for drivers.
Orem 800 North Trail; 1000 East to Palisade Drive

Crews have started construction activities for this project. Initial work includes relocating signs, mailboxes and removal of existing sidewalk. This work is taking place along 800 North in Orem between 1000 East and 1600 East. The Murdock Canal Trail will be temporarily closed in the work zone but a detour is available on 1200 North. Benefits of this project include a wider and longer sidewalk along 800 North and will complete the interconnections between the Murdock Canal Trail, the Orem 800 North Trail and the Provo Canyon Trail. This trail will complete the connection between the Murdock Canal Trail and the Provo Canyon Trail.

Springville Safety Improvement Project

Work on the railroad crossing at Main Street and 1000 South is underway. The road is closed at this location until crews have finished with the improvements. This work will improve the quality of the road surface at these crossings. Work to provide the left hand turn lane for north bound traffic on U.S. 89 and Main Street is underway at this time. This work will make it easier for north bound U.S. 89 traffic to make a left turn onto Main Street.
I-15; South Payson Interchange to Spanish Fork River

I-15 northbound and southbound are currently being reduced to one lane at night (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.) for paving activities. Closures will take place nightly, as needed, until late fall. As crews continue to work on various parts of the road, please pay special attention to any shifts in lane configuration. All changes will be marked with signage and reflective tabs on the road.

Crews continue to work on the bridges at Utah Avenue, 400 North, and Payson Main. Traffic will be reduced to one-way lane configuration, as needed, until project completion. Traffic will be controlled with temporary traffic lights and flaggers. Sound wall installation is being completed in qualified areas along the eastern side of I-15. All work is part of the overall I-15 widening project from the south Payson interchange to Spanish Fork River. The widening will improve traffic flow and help accommodate for future growth throughout region.

Reach 2 Pipeline; Spanish Fork/Provo Reservoir Canal

Seven Peaks Boulevard is scheduled to be paved on Friday, Oct. 11. Seven Peaks Boulevard is scheduled to be opened with no construction restrictions on Monday, Oct. 13. The schedule may change due to weather conditions. This is part of a project dedicated to developing and distributing a portion of Utah's share of Colorado River water for use along the Wasatch Front.

Permit, Maintenance and Other Area Projects

I-15 Bridge Deck Repair; Nephi Area

Crews are scheduled to repair and perform pot hole patching on several bridge decks on I-15, in the Nephi area. Work is anticipated to occur Oct. 14 through Oct. 31 from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In order to accommodate work, one lane in one direction will be closed at a time. Delays are anticipated to be minimal. This work will help improve the driving surface and prolong the life of the roadway structures.

Chip Seal: 2 Locations, Midway Center Street and U.S. 40

Chip-seal operations on the S.R. 113 bridge structure over the Provo River are now complete. Weather permitting, crews plan to return to the area mid-next week to apply final striping. Lane shifting and lane reductions may be in place while crews perform work. The project is scheduled to be complete October 2013. This project provided a smoother ride for drivers and helped prolonged the life of the roadway.
Deer Creek Reservoir Walls

Work is now underway on the reservoir walls. Motorists can expect lane shifts with one lane of traffic open in each direction during the day, with intermittent one-way flagging during the night (10 p.m. to 6 a.m.). Traffic lanes have been narrowed and motorists are advised to reduce speeds while traveling through the area. Crews currently expect to repave sections of the road impacted by drainage work during a 36-hour period on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 19-20. During this time, traffic will be restricted to one lane with a flagger to direct both directions of traffic. This work will help repair and maintain the outside of the westbound lane shoulder that needs repair due to slope erosion.
U.S. 191; Slide Repair MP 261.4 to 261.8

Work to repair the slide area is complete. Road repair operations began on Aug. 5. During construction, one-way flagging operations will be in place. Work is scheduled to occur during daytime hours. Crews expect work to be completed by fall 2013. This project will repair a slide area and the damaged roadway on U.S. 191.
S.R. 35, S.R. 87 Bridge Rehabilitation, Two Locations

Bridge work on S.R. 35 is now complete. UDOT continues to perform maintenance on the S.R. 87 bridge. One-way flagging will occur, and a one-time 36-hour full closure of the S.R. 35 bridge over the Duchesne River is anticipated mid-October. Drivers should expect delays. This work will help maintain the bridge structures in the area.
U.S. 40; MP 116.2 to MP 118.8, Ballard

Highway 40 from MP 116.2 to MP 118.8 (Ballard) is nearing completion of a widening project to add a center turn lane and widened shoulders east of Roosevelt. During daytime working hours (6 a.m. to 8 p.m.), travel lanes may be narrowed to 12'. At night (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.), the contractor is allowed alternating one-way traffic with a single 12' lane controlled with flagging operations. Work is nearly complete with landscaping and guardrail/field fencing installation and striping activities taking place this week. This project will increase safety and help prolong the life of the road.
