7    A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE LEGISLATURE PROPOSING TO AMEND THE UTAH
8    CONSTITUTION; REPEALING THE PROVISION ON PROPERTY RIGHTS OF MARRIED
9    WOMEN; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
10    This resolution proposes to change the Utah Constitution as follows:
11    REPEALS:
12         ARTICLE XXII, SECTION 2
13    Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, two-thirds of all members elected to each of
14    the two houses voting in favor thereof:
15        Section 1. It is proposed to repeal Utah Constitution Article XXII, Section 2:
16         Article XXII, Section 2. [Property rights of married women.]
17        [Real and personal estate of every female, acquired before marriage, and all property to
18    which she may afterwards become entitled by purchase, gift, grant, inheritance or devise, shall be
19    and remain the estate and property of such female, and shall not be liable for the debts, obligations
20    or engagements of her husband, and may be conveyed, devised or bequeathed by her as if she were
21    unmarried.]
22        Section 2. Submittal to electors.
23        The lieutenant governor is directed to submit this proposed amendment to the electors of
24    the state of Utah at the next general election in the manner provided by law.
25        Section 3. Effective date.
26        If approved by the electors of the state, the amendment proposed by this joint resolution


1    shall take effect on January 1, 1999.
