ROCKY MOUNTAIN PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY

6 AN ACT RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS IN GENERAL; ESTABLISHING PROCEDURES
7 FOR APPOINTING MEMBERS TO A ROCKY MOUNTAIN PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY
8 TASK FORCE; DEFINING TASK FORCE MEMBERS' RESPONSIBILITIES; AND
9 PROVIDING A REPEAL DATE.
10 This act enacts uncodified material.
11 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
12 Section 1. Rocky Mountain Presidential Primary Task Force -- Utah appointments.
13 (1) There shall be six members from Utah appointed to the Rocky Mountain Presidential
14 Primary Task Force as provided in Subsection (2).
15 (2) (a) The governor shall appoint two members, one Republican and one Democrat.
16 (b) The speaker of the House of Representatives shall appoint two members, one
17 Republican and one Democrat.
18 (c) The president of the Senate shall appoint two members, one Republican and one
19 Democrat.
20 Section 2. Responsibilities of Utah members of the Rocky Mountain Presidential
21 Primary Task Force.
22 In cooperation with their fellow task force members appointed from other participating
23 rocky mountain states, the Utah members of the Rocky Mountain Presidential Primary Task Force
24 shall:
25 (1) recommend a common date for a joint Rocky Mountain Presidential Preference
26 Primary to each participating state in the task force;
27 (2) recommend mechanisms to increase presidential candidates' interaction with western

1 voters and their attention to western regional issues, such as:
2 (a) public land management;
3 (b) water policy; and
4 (c) the use of natural resources such as grazing, mining, and timber; and
5 (3) assist participating states in review and consideration of legislation authorizing
6 participation in a Rocky Mountain Presidential Preference Primary on the same date.
7 Section 3. Repeal date.
8 This act is repealed January 1, 2000.
