6    AN ACT RELATING TO APPROPRIATIONS; APPROPRIATING S [$500,000] $150,000 s FROM

7    GENERAL FUND FOR FISCAL YEAR 1998-99 FOR THE SAFEGUARDING OF
8    ABANDONED MINES; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
9    This act enacts uncodified material.
10    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
11        Section 1. Appropriation.
12        (1) (a) There is appropriated from the General Fund for fiscal year 1998-99 S [ $500,000]
12a     $150,000 s to
13    the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining for the safeguarding of abandoned mines.
14        (b) The money shall be used by the division for the safeguarding of abandoned mines
15    within any area of the state containing abandoned mine hazards, with priority given to mines in
16    the following areas:
17        (i) the Oquirrh Mountains, including the Five Mile Pass, Stockton-Rush Valley, Mercur,
18    West Mercur, and Ophir mining districts; or
19        (ii) Parley's Canyon north to Ogden, including the City Creek, Farmington, Hardscrabble,
20    Morgan, Mountain Green, and Argenta mining districts.
21        (c) The money may be used for:
22        (i) inventorying;
23        (ii) identifying landowners;
24        (iii) environmental clearances; and
25        (iv) safeguarding mines from human entry.
26        (2) The money appropriated in Subsection (1) is nonlapsing.
