5 AN ACT RELATING TO HEALTH; PERMITTING A TRAINED PERSON TO PERFORM
6 CPR AND USE AN AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR WITHOUT A LICENSE
7 OR CERTIFICATE.
8 This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
9 ENACTS:
10 26-8-7.5, Utah Code Annotated 1953
11 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
12 Section 1. Section 26-8-7.5 is enacted to read:
13 26-8-7.5. Automatic external defibrillator.
14 (1) "Basic emergency care training for cardiac arrest" means a course that:
15 (a) includes instruction on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the operation and use of an
16 automatic external defibrillator; and
17 (b) is conducted in accordance with guidelines of the American Heart Association by a
18 person qualified by training or experience.
19 (2) Notwithstanding Section 26-8-7, a person who has received basic emergency care
20 training for cardiac arrest may provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use an automatic
21 external defibrillator without a license, certificate, designation, or permit issued under this chapter
22 or Title 58, Occupations and Professions.
