6    AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION; REQUIRING LOCAL SCHOOL BOARDS
7    TO ENSURE AN ANNUAL PRESENTATION IS GIVEN TO SECONDARY SCHOOL
8    STUDENTS IN GRADES 9-12 ON ADOPTION PROCEDURES; AND PROVIDING AN
9    EFFECTIVE DATE.
10    This act affects sections of Utah Code Annotated 1953 as follows:
11    AMENDS:
12         53A-13-107, as enacted by Chapter 185, Laws of Utah 1996
13    Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
14        Section 1. Section 53A-13-107 is amended to read:
15         53A-13-107. Adoption information.
16        (1) [School boards that operate special schools for pregnant students and students who are
17    parents] Each local school board shall ensure that [every student in a special school who is under
18    age 21 attends, at least once each academic term, a] an annual presentation [at the school] on
19    adoption is given to its secondary school students in grades 9-12 from a person [who places
20    children for adoption] who is either a representative of a child placement agency licensed under
21    Title 62A, Chapter 2, or an attorney licensed to practice law in this state.
22        (2) The presentation may be included as part of a district's teenage pregnancy prevention
23    program authorized under Section 53A-17a-121.
24        Section 2. Effective date.
25        This act takes effect on July 1, 1998.
