First Substitute H.B. 157

Representative Wayne A. Harper proposes to substitute the following bill:

1 APPROPRIATIONS FOR DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
2 LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS SALARY ADJUSTMENTS
3 1999 GENERAL SESSION
4 STATE OF UTAH

6 AN ACT RELATING TO PUBLIC SAFETY AND APPROPRIATIONS; APPROPRIATING
7 $2,100,000 FOR FISCAL YEAR 1999-2000 TO BE USED TOWARD ACHIEVING PARITY
8 OF SALARIES FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC
9 SAFETY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
10 This act enacts uncodified material.
11 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
12 Section 1. Appropriation.
13 (1) Except as provided in H.B. 4, Appropriations Coordination Act, there is appropriated
14 from the General Fund to the Department of Public Safety $2,100,000 for fiscal year 1999-2000.
15 (2) It is the intent of the Legislature that this appropriation shall be solely used to adjust
16 salaries for law enforcement officers, classified in Section 53-13-103 , of the Department of Public
17 Safety in an attempt to provide salary parity with law enforcement officers employed by the cities
18 and counties of the state.
19 Section 2. Effective date.
20 This act takes effect on July 1, 1999.
