7 A concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizing the importance
8 of local business to the economy of the state of Utah and urging state agencies and
9 political subdivisions to support local business.
10 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
11 WHEREAS, local businesses provide valuable goods and services within the state of
12 Utah;
13 WHEREAS, local businesses have a significant and positive economic impact on the
14 state;
15 WHEREAS, local businesses pay corporate franchise taxes, sales taxes, property taxes,
16 and other fees and taxes which benefit the citizens of the state;
17 WHEREAS, local businesses employ citizens of the state of Utah who also pay income
18 taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, and other fees and taxes which benefit the citizens of the
19 state;
20 WHEREAS, government entities and political subdivisions are financed by the taxes
21 and fees paid by local citizens and businesses; and
22 WHEREAS, taxes paid by Utah businesses to state and local governments are essential
23 to provide government services and educate Utah's children:
24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
25 Governor concurring therein, expresses support for the business community in the state of Utah
26 and recognizes its important role in creating a healthy economy.
27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
28 importance of considering the potential negative impact on the Utah business community in its
29 passage of laws and through state agency rulemaking.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize the
31 valuable benefit of local businesses and recommend that whenever possible, and all else being
32 equal, state agencies and other political subdivisions purchase goods and services from local
33 businesses.
34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to each state
35 agency director and purchasing agent for the state of Utah.
