This joint resolution of the Legislature requests that all state agencies notify legislators of
any agency-related events impacting their constituents and taking place within their
districts.
Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
WHEREAS, frequently citizens of the state contact their legislators to find out which
state agency to contact to resolve a concern or to discuss state laws or issues;
WHEREAS, legislators and state agencies often work together to help citizens to get
the information they need or to find the appropriate agency to contact;
WHEREAS, while state agencies and legislators may not always agree on how a
particular issue should be resolved, information sharing and coordination between the two
groups leads to a better-served constituency;
WHEREAS, state agencies sponsoring events within a legislative district such as public
meetings or the opening of a new state facility should provide information on the event to any
legislators who represent the district in which the event occurs;
WHEREAS, by keeping legislators informed, state agencies are ensuring that those who
have been elected to represent the people that the agency is impacting have the opportunity to
help their constituents better understand government processes and how they can meet the
needs of citizens; and
WHEREAS, the more that state agencies keep legislators and citizens informed about
state agency services, the less misunderstandings agencies will have to resolve:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
urges state agencies to notify legislators of any agency-related events impacting their
constituents and taking place within their districts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to each department
of state government.
