8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This joint resolution of the Legislature recognizes the Freedom Academy, at the time of
11 its 50th anniversary, for the important contribution it has made to inspire and motivate
12 Utah's high school students.
13 Highlighted Provisions:
14 This resolution:
15 . recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Academy; and
16 . recognizes the Freedom Academy for the important contribution it has made in
17 helping high school student body officers develop leadership skills, a sense of
18 patriotism, and motivation to be actively engaged in preserving the freedoms
19 enjoyed in the United States of America.

23 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
24 WHEREAS, each year since 1961, approximately 100 high school student body officers
25 from throughout Utah have attended classes and participated in activities at the Freedom
26 Academy aimed at developing leadership skills, promoting a sense of patriotism, and providing
27 motivation to be actively involved in preserving the freedoms enjoyed in America;

28 WHEREAS, graduates of the Freedom Academy have subsequently served in their
29 communities, states, and nation in a variety of roles and settings, including professional
30 vocations, business, education, public service, the military, and as stay-at-home parents;
31 WHEREAS, the Utah National Guard will conduct its 50th Annual Freedom Academy
32 beginning Sunday, July 31, 2011 through Friday, August 5, 2011; and
33 WHEREAS, in preparation for the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Freedom
34 Academy, it is fitting that the great impact of the Freedom Academy on the lives of countless
35 Utah high school students should be properly recognized:
36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
37 recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Academy.
38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature recognizes the Freedom Academy
39 for the important contribution it has made in helping Utah's high school student body officers
40 develop leadership skills, a sense of patriotism, and motivation to be actively engaged in
41 preserving the freedoms enjoyed in the United States of America.
42 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Freedom
43 Academy and the Utah National Guard.
