Rep. Gibson called the meeting to order at 4:15 p.m.

MOTION:    Rep. Moss moved to approve the minutes of January 24, 2012. The motion passed unanimously. Rep. Arent and Rep. Newbold were absent for the vote.

H.B. 212    Dividing School Districts (Rep. J. Bird)

Rep. Bird introduced the bill which makes changes to certain new school district creation procedures. He introduced the following students and teacher from Copper Hills High School who assisted in presenting the bill:
    Sean Lewis
    Nathan Elmer
    Alexia Diaz
    Shelly Harris
    Mr. Dennis Randall, Teacher


The following spoke in opposition to the bill:
    Ashley Edwards, student
    Mr. Brian Allen, Cottonwood Heights

Peggy Jo Kennett, Jordan School District Board, spoke in support of the bill.

MOTION:    Rep. Newbold moved to pass the bill out with a favorable recommendation. The motion failed with Rep. Newbold voting in support of the bill.

H.B. 62    Provisions Regarding School Supplies (Rep. K. Powell)

Rep. Powell introduced the bill which modifies provisions regarding school supplies for elementary school students.

MOTION:    Rep. Powell moved to amend the bill as follows:

1.    Page 2, Line 44 :    

             44          "NOTICE:
  FURNISHING       THE ITEMS ON THIS LIST      {   ARE   }        IS       OPTIONAL. NO ELEMENTARY

The motion passed unanimously. Rep. Hughes and Rep. Sumsion were absent for the vote.

MOTION:    Rep. Poulson moved to amend the bill as follows:

1.    Page 2, Lines 48 through 49 :    

             48      STUDENT USE. EQUIVALENT SUPPLIES WILL BE FURNISHED
  AS NECESSARY       BY THE SCHOOL TO

             49      ALL STUDENTS FREE OF CHARGE
{   AS NECESSARY   } ."

The motion passed unanimously. Rep. Hughes and Rep. Sumsion were absent for the vote.

MOTION:    Rep. Arent moved to amend the bill as follows:

1.    Page 2, Line 48 :    

             48      STUDENT USE.

The motion passed unanimously. Rep. Hughes and Rep. Sumsion were absent for the vote.

MOTION:    Rep. Poulson moved to pass the bill out as amended with a favorable recommendation. The motion passed with Rep. Mathis voting in opposition. Rep. Hughes and Rep. Sumsion were absent for the vote.

H.B. 261    Dividing of School Districts Amendments (Rep. K. Sumsion)

H.B. 261 was not considered.

MOTION:    Rep. Moss moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously. Chair Gibson adjourned the meeting at 5:50 p.m.
