8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This bill allows a parent to move the parent's child from the classroom of a teacher if
11 the teacher is carrying a concealed firearm.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This bill:
14 . requires teachers who carry concealed firearms to school to notify the principal of
15 the school;
16 . permits a parent to inquire if the teacher of the parent's child is carrying a concealed
17 firearm;
18 . requires a principal to tell a parent who inquires if the teacher of the parent's child is
19 carrying a concealed firearm;
20 . allows a parent to request removal of the parent's child from a classroom with a
21 teacher carrying a concealed firearm;
22 . requires the school to comply with a parent's request to remove the parent's child
23 from a classroom with a teacher carrying a concealed firearm; and
24 . provides that the information obtained by the parent is confidential.

33 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
34 Section 1. Section 53A-2-501 is enacted to read:

36 53A-2-501. Educators with concealed firearm permits -- Request by parent to
37 move student.
38 (1) An educator, as defined in Section 53A-8a-402 , who has a concealed firearm
39 permit issued in accordance with Section 53-5-704 or 53-5-705 and who carries or intends to
40 carry a concealed firearm on the grounds of the school in which the educator is employed shall:
41 (a) notify the principal of the school that the educator is carrying a concealed firearm;
42 and
43 (b) carry the firearm on the educator's person at all times when on school grounds.
44 (2) Upon request by a parent of a child in the educator's classroom, the principal shall
45 disclose to the parent that the educator has a concealed firearm permit and that the educator has
46 notified the principal of the educator's intent to carry the firearm while on the school grounds.
47 (3) If the parent requests reassignment of the parent's child from the classroom of an
48 educator who has notified the principal of the educator's intent to carry a concealed firearm on
49 school grounds, the request shall be honored.
50 (4) Information obtained by a parent under this section shall be kept confidential.
