9 General Description:
10 This bill amends provisions for externship licenses issued by the Division of
11 Occupational and Professional Licensing.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This bill:
14 ▸ amends provisions for an externship license issued under the Social Worker
15 Licensing Act, the Marriage and Family Therapist Licensing Act, or the Clinical
16 Mental Health Counselor Licensing Act.

25 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26 Section 1. Section 58-60-117 is amended to read:
27 58-60-117. Externship licenses.
28 (1) The division shall issue a temporary license under Part 2, Social Worker Licensing
29 Act, Part 3, Marriage and Family Therapist Licensing Act, or Part 4, Clinical Mental Health
30 Counselor Licensing Act, of this chapter to a person who:
31 (a) submits an application for licensure under Part 2, Social Worker Licensing Act,
32 Part 3, Marriage and Family Therapist Licensing Act, or Part 4, Clinical Mental Health
33 Counselor Licensing Act;
34 (b) pays a fee determined by the department under Section 63J-1-504;
35 (c) holds an earned doctoral degree or master's degree in a discipline that is a
36 prerequisite for practice as a mental health therapist;
37 (d) has [
38 work[
39 (e) provides mental health therapy as an employee of a public or private organization,
40 which provides mental health therapy, while under the supervision of a person licensed under
41 this chapter; and
42 (f) is of good moral character and has no disciplinary action pending or in effect
43 against the applicant in connection with the practice of mental health therapy, in any
44 jurisdiction.
45 (2) A temporary license issued under this section shall expire upon the earlier of:
46 (a) issuance of the license applied for; or
47 (b) three years from the date the temporary license was issued.
48 (3) The temporary license issued under this section is an externship license.
