7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill addresses salaries and compensation of judges.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸     addresses salaries and compensation of judges of courts of record; and
13          ▸     makes technical and conforming changes.
14     Money Appropriated in this Bill:
15          None
16     Other Special Clauses:
17          This bill provides a special effective date.

20          67-8-2, as last amended by Laws of Utah 1996, Chapter 198

22     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
23          Section 1. Section 67-8-2 is amended to read:
24          67-8-2. Salaries of judges established annually in appropriations act -- Bases of
25     salaries -- Additional compensation.
26          (1) The salaries of judges of courts of record, as described in Section 78A-1-101, shall
27     be set annually by the Legislature in an appropriations act.
28          (2) Judicial salaries shall be based [upon] on the following percentages of the salary of
29     a district court judge:

30          (a) juvenile court judges:                    100%;
31          (b) Court of Appeals judges:                    105%; and
32          (c) [associate] justices of the Supreme Court:     110%.
33          (3) (a) A salary described in Subsection (2) does not include additional compensation
34     provided for a presiding judge, presiding officer, or associate presiding judge in:
35          (i) Section 78A-2-106;
36          (ii) Section 78A-4-102;
37          (iii) Section 78A-5-106; or
38          (iv) Section 78A-6-203.
39          (b) Compensation described in Subsection (3)(a) does not constitute a salary for
40     purposes of Utah Constitution, Article VIII, Section 14.
41          Section 2. Effective date.
42          This bill takes effect on July 1, 2015.
