8 General Description:
9 This bill enacts provisions regarding freight train crew size requirements.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 ▸ provides definitions;
13 ▸ prohibits a railroad from operating a freight train or light engine used in connection
14 with the movement of freight unless it has a crew consisting of at least two
15 individuals; and
16 ▸ specifies the certification requirements for crew members operating a freight train or
17 light engine used in connection with the movement of freight.

26 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
27 Section 1. Section 56-1-25.5 is enacted to read:
28 56-1-25.5. Freight train crew size.
29 (1) As used in this section, "railroad" means the same as that term is defined in 49
30 U.S.C. Sec. 20102.
31 (2) A railroad may not operate a freight train or light engine used in connection with
32 the movement of freight unless the railroad has a crew consisting of at least the following two
33 individuals:
34 (a) a person who is certified as a locomotive engineer pursuant to 49 U.S.C. Sec.
35 20135; and
36 (b) a person who is certified as a conductor pursuant to 49 U.S.C. Sec. 20136.
