8 LONG TITLE
9 General Description:
10 This resolution of the Legislature encourages firms to employ Utah workers in the Utah
11 state prison relocation efforts.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 ▸ acknowledges that only state tax dollars will be used in the prison relocation efforts;
15 ▸ recognizes the positive economic effects of the prison's relocation; and
16 ▸ encourages the state to procure services for the prison relocation efforts that will
17 substantially employ Utah workers.

21 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
22 WHEREAS, the relocation efforts for the Utah state prison will be paid by state funds
23 only, and will not be paid with federal funds;
24 WHEREAS, these state funds will be derived from Utah taxpayers;
25 WHEREAS, the prison relocation will create jobs and be an economic engine for the
26 state of Utah;
27 WHEREAS, the relocation of the Utah state prison has the potential to employ a
28 substantial number of workers, both in the relocation itself and in any indirect economic
29 development opportunities that may arise from the prison's relocation; and
30 WHEREAS, the ingenuity and hard work of the Utah workforce is to be commended
31 and should be further encouraged through increased employment opportunities:
32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
33 encourages the state to procure services from firms that will substantially employ Utah workers
34 for the Utah state prison relocation efforts.
35 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the
36 board of directors of the Associated General Contractors of Utah, the director of the Division
37 of Facilities Construction and Management, and the Utah congressional delegation.
