Chair Ivory called the meeting to order at 3:54 p.m.
MOTION: Rep. Christofferson moved to approve the minutes of the February 9, 2015 meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Chew and Rep. Tanner absent for the vote.
H.B. 214 Misrepresentation of Telephone and Text Identification (Rep. D. Lifferth)
Rep. Lifferth explained the bill to the committee.
MOTION: Rep. Handy moved to amend the bill as follows:
1. Page 1, Lines 14 through 15:
14 ► prohibits making telephone calls or text messages that provide false or inaccurate
15caller or text message identification information with the intent to { mislead } harm ;
2. Page 2, Line 50:
50message identification information with the intent to { deceive } harm the recipient of the call or text
The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Chew and Rep. Tanner absent for the vote.
MOTION: Rep. Christofferson moved to further amend the bill as follows:
1. Page 1, Line 16:
16 ► provides that a first violation is a class C misdemeanor and that any subsequent violation is a class B misdemeanor; and
2. Page 3, Lines 60 through 61:
60 (5) Each separate call { , message, } or text message transmitted in violation of this section
61is :
(a) for a first violation, a class C misdemanor; and
(b) for a second or subsequent violation, a class B misdemeanor.
The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Chew absent for the vote.
MOTION: Rep. Grover moved to pass the bill out favorably as amended. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Chew absent for the vote.
Vice Chair Handy assumed the chair.
S.B. 88 Public Utilities Amendments (Sen. K. Van Tassell)
Rep. Ivory explained the bill to the committee.
