9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor recognizes the 100th
11     anniversary of the National Park System.
12     Highlighted Provisions:
13          This resolution:
14          ▸     recognizes the 100th anniversary of the creation of the modern National Park
15     System.
16     Special Clauses:
17          None

19     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
20          WHEREAS, the majestic landscapes of National Parks are touchstones of our shared
21     history and culture;
22          WHEREAS, appreciation of National Parks span geographic region, ethnic background,
23     age, economic circumstance, and political persuasion;
24          WHEREAS, National Parks serve as anchors to greater urban park systems and
25     contribute to the physical and aesthetic quality of urban neighborhoods;

26          WHEREAS, the National Parks in Utah are valuable contributors to job opportunities,
27     youth development, public health, and community building;
28          WHEREAS, National Parks are economic engines critical to supporting residential,
29     commercial, and community development activities in cities and towns across America;
30          WHEREAS, Utah's National Parks provide affordable, safe, and inspiring places for
31     people to play, exercise, and relax;
32          WHEREAS, every dollar invested in National Park operations generates $10 for local
33     economies;
34          WHEREAS, every two park service jobs yield one job outside the park;
35          WHEREAS, National Parks in Utah draw international tourists to our cities;
36          WHEREAS, eight of the top 25 tourist destinations in America are National Park units;
37          WHEREAS, Utah's National Parks exemplify the American spirit, rugged yet naturally
38     beautiful;
39          WHEREAS, National Parks inspire the future but remind us of the past and those that
40     have sacrificed so much to share the beauty with our generation;
41          WHEREAS, National Parks remind us that we have a sacred trust to pass their beauty
42     on to the generations to come;
43          WHEREAS, Utah is proud to host five National Parks;
44          WHEREAS, Utah's five National Parks provide a way to encourage families, visitors,
45     and Utahns to explore the beautiful vistas and venues and flora and fauna that make Utah a
46     uniquely beautiful state;
47          WHEREAS, Utah's five National Parks serve as backdrops for Hollywood movies,
48     scout hikes, and family picnics;
49          WHEREAS, the National Park Service recently reported that the national monuments,
50     the national historic site, and the "Mighty 5" National Parks located in Utah combine to
51     contribute $1 billion annually to the Utah economy;
52          WHEREAS, the nation is marking the 100th anniversary of the creation of the modern
53     National Park system in 2016; and
54          WHEREAS, since 1916, the National Park system has grown to include not only the
55     most splendid examples of America's unsurpassed natural and scenic heritage, but also the
56     special places, artifacts, and stories of our nation's birth, our struggles and triumphs as a

57     people, and the shared values that unite us:
58          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
59     Governor concurring therein, recognizes the 100th anniversary of the creation of the modern
60     National Park system.
61          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the President of
62     the United States, the Majority Leader of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United
63     States House of Representatives, the National Park Service, the Governor's Office of Economic
64     Development, the Utah Department of Natural Resources, and the members of Utah's
65     congressional delegation.
