8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution of the Legislature designates the second week of June 2016
11     as Utah Dinosaur Days.
12     Highlighted Provisions:
13          This resolution:
14          ▸     recognizes the impact Utah's dinosaur discoveries have had on the state;
15          ▸     designates the second week of June 2016 as Utah Dinosaur Days; and
16          ▸     recognizes two Utah students' passion for dinosaurs.

20     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
21          WHEREAS, Utah has a rich heritage that stretches back to the age of the dinosaur;
22          WHEREAS, the research and study of dinosaurs and dinosaur fossils in Utah has led to
23     the discovery and identification of new species of dinosaurs, such as the Utahraptor;
24          WHEREAS, the state's new and ongoing opportunities for dinosaur research and the
25     valuable contributions these discoveries provide to history and science has brought the state
26     international attention;
27          WHEREAS, Utah's rich abundance of dinosaur fossils, located at multiple sites

28     throughout the state, are an important asset for Utah's tourism industry, generating millions of
29     dollars for the state's economy;
30          WHEREAS, there are 11 museums, quarries, national monuments, exhibits, and sites
31     throughout Utah devoted to the preservation and display of dinosaur fossils;
32          WHEREAS, these distinguished landmark collections encompass 10 counties
33     throughout the state and have an effect on history, science, education, tourism, and economic
34     development;
35          WHEREAS, the study of dinosaurs is important to teach and enrich the lives of Utahns
36     from primary school to post-graduate students, professional scholars, and researchers;
37          WHEREAS, the Natural History Museum of Utah has a paleontology collection with
38     tens of thousands of specimens and conducts ongoing field-based major research projects;
39          WHEREAS, the Allosaurus is Utah's state fossil;
40          WHEREAS, Utah's abundance of paleontological opportunities have inspired Utah
41     students for years;
42          WHEREAS, Noelle Miranda Tuttle, a fifth-grade student with the insight to recognize
43     the importance of dinosaurs to Utah, proposed the idea to set aside a week in recognition of
44     Utah's historic relationship with dinosaurs and dinosaur fossils; and
45          WHEREAS, Ms. Tuttle's efforts to establish Utah Dinosaur Days are joined by Scott
46     and Christy Williams, the parents of Leland Anthony Williams, a gifted student who was
47     passionate about dinosaur research and who was in the process of applying for full-ride
48     scholarships at the time of his untimely death at age 14:
49          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
50     designates the second week of June 2016 as Utah Dinosaur Days in the state of Utah to
51     recognize and emphasize the importance of dinosaurs and dinosaur fossils to science, history,
52     education, tourism, and economic development in the state.
53          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Scott
54     and Christy Williams family, parents of Leland Anthony Williams, and to Noelle Miranda
55     Tuttle.
