9 General Description:
10 This concurrent resolution of the Legislature and the Governor expresses support for
11 law enforcement officers in the state of Utah and nationwide.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 ▸ asks law enforcement officers in Utah to turn on their red and blue lights for up to
15 one minute at 11:00 a.m. on the first day of every month of 2016, or perform other
16 appropriate recognition, to honor all law enforcement officers lost this year; and
17 ▸ expresses support for Utah law enforcement officers and law enforcement officers
19 Special Clauses:
22 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
23 WHEREAS, Utah recognizes all law enforcement agencies and officers for their tireless
24 work to protect us and make our communities safer;
25 WHEREAS, our nation's law enforcement agencies wear their uniforms with honor,
26 dedication, and integrity as they protect and serve their communities;
27 WHEREAS, these uniforms have made them targets to those who seek to kill or injure
28 law enforcement officers simply because of their profession and commitment to duty, like
29 Deputy Sergeant Cory Wride and Deputy Greg Sherwood who were shot on January 30, 2014,
30 and Officer Douglas Barney who was shot on January 17, 2016;
31 WHEREAS, the national law enforcement family mourns the continuing loss of many
32 officers that have fallen victim to these vicious attacks; and
33 WHEREAS, the citizens of Utah stand with the families of the fallen, the officers
34 currently protecting our community, and the officers throughout the United States:
35 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
36 Governor concurring therein, asks every law enforcement officer in Utah who stands behind
37 the thin blue line to turn on the officer's red and blue lights for up to one minute at 11:00 a.m.
38 on the first day of every month of 2016, or perform other appropriate recognition, to honor all
39 of our law enforcement officers lost this year as they protected the communities they were
40 sworn to uphold.
41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor stand together
42 with Utah law enforcement officers and officers nationwide: together we are united, "Fortes in
43 Unitate -- Strength in Unity."
