10          The Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Interim Committee
11     recommended this resolution.
12     General Description:
13          This resolution encourages public water suppliers to implement universal metering.
14     Highlighted Provisions:
15          This resolution:
16          ▸     notes that, as the second most arid state in the country, Utah needs to conserve
17     water;
18          ▸     states that when citizens know how much water they are using, they tend to
19     voluntarily conserve that water; and
20          ▸     encourages public water suppliers to implement metering on all retail public and
21     private water systems.

25     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
26          WHEREAS, Utah is the second most arid state in the country;
27          WHEREAS, the citizens of Utah must do everything they can to conserve water

28     resources;
29          WHEREAS, water managers from around the state have indicated that when customers
30     know how much water they are using and how much water they need to be using, most
31     customers voluntarily adjust their water usage; 32          WHEREAS, many secondary water and some culinary systems in the state are not
33     metered, which means residents have no idea how much water they are using;
34          WHEREAS, metering water systems is one tool in the conservation toolbox; and
35          WHEREAS, if more citizens in Utah knew how much water they were using, they
36     would voluntarily conserve:
37          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
38     Governor concurring therein, encourages public water suppliers to implement metering on all
39     retail public and private water systems.
40          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
41     Association of Conservation Districts, the Utah League of Cities and Towns, the Rural Water
42     Association of Utah, the Utah Association of Special Districts, and the Utah Water Users
43     Association.
