9 General Description:
10 This joint resolution recognizes the 100th anniversary of the Junior Reserve Officer
11 Training Corps (JROTC) program.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 ▸ recognizes the 100th anniversary of the JROTC program;
15 ▸ supports the service projects that will be conducted the week of April 18, 2016, to
16 commemorate 100 years of JROTC service; and
17 ▸ recognizes the benefits the JROTC provides for its cadets, local schools, and
18 communities.

22 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
23 WHEREAS, the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) was formally
24 established by the 1916 National Defense Act;
25 WHEREAS, the JROTC's mission is to develop citizens of character who are dedicated
26 to serving their nation and community;
27 WHEREAS, the JROTC's objectives are to:
28 • educate and train high school cadets in citizenship;
29 • promote community service; and
30 • instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline;
31 WHEREAS, benefits of the JROTC program include:
32 • students' increased confidence, self-discipline, sense of belonging, and
33 leadership skills;
34 • the ability for a JROTC cadet to enlist at a higher rank should they
35 pursue a military career; and
36 • partnerships with local schools to increase community presence and
37 engagement; and
38 WHEREAS, all JROTC units in all branches of military service worldwide will select a
39 service project to be conducted the week of April 18, 2016, to commemorate 100 years of
40 JROTC service:
41 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
42 recognizes the 100th anniversary of the JROTC program.
43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature supports the service projects to be
44 conducted the week of April 18, 2016, to commemorate 100 years of JROTC service.
