8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This joint resolution of the Legislature urges Utah's law enforcement professionals to
11     engage in continuing education and training activities to continually update their work
12     skills and professionalism.
13     Highlighted Provisions:
14          This resolution:
15          ▸     recognizes that Utah's law enforcement professionals perform a vital and important
16     service to the citizens of the state of Utah; and
17          ▸     urges Utah's law enforcement professionals to engage in continuing education and
18     training activities to continually update their work skills and professionalism.
19     Special Clauses:
20          None

22     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
23          WHEREAS, Utah's law enforcement professionals perform vital service to their cities,
24     towns, counties, and the state every day;
25          WHEREAS, education and training play a key role in helping Utah's law enforcement
26     professionals to continually sharpen the skills that are so important to their work;
27          WHEREAS, few professions can rival the hours of education and training required of

28     law enforcement professionals;
29          WHEREAS, the Legislature recognizes that the primary responsibilities of law
30     enforcement professionals are to protect and to serve citizens, frequently in difficult
31     circumstances;
32          WHEREAS, continuing education and training are essential to help law enforcement
33     professionals grow and improve in skill areas needed to best serve and protect citizens; and
34          WHEREAS, continuing education and training in their chosen profession will help law
35     enforcement professionals to act with skill and safety, which benefits law enforcement
36     professionals and the citizens they serve:
37          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah
38     recognizes that Utah's law enforcement professionals perform a vital and important service to
39     the citizens of the state of Utah.
40          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah urges Utah's
41     law enforcement professionals to engage in continuing education and training activities to
42     continually update their work skills and professionalism.
43          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Utah
44     Department of Public Safety, the Utah Highway Patrol, the Utah Chiefs of Police Association,
45     the Utah Sheriffs' Association, the Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Association, the Salt
46     Lake Police Association, the Utah Peace Officers Association, and the Fraternal Order of
47     Police.
