Chair Webb called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m.

 

MOTION:       Rep. Hemingway moved to approve the minutes of the January 29, 2016, meeting. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Coleman, Rep. Dunnigan, and Rep. Thurston absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 95             Political Issues Committee Amendments (Rep. K. Powell)

 

Rep. Powell explained the bill to the committee and presented a power point discussion.

 

MOTION:       Rep. Hemingway moved to pass H.B. 95 out favorably. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Dunnigan absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:       Rep. Ipson moved to place H.B. 95 on the Consent Calendar. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Dunnigan absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 146           Disclosure of Local Candidates (Rep. P. Ray)

 

Rep. Ray explained the bill to the committee.

 

Spoke for the bill:          Ricky Hatch, Weber County Clerk/Auditor, County Clerks Association

MOTION:       Rep. Thurston moved to amend the bill as follows:

 

1.    Page 2, Lines 28 through 30:        

 

28the county or municipality:

29   (1) the name  of the candidate  and  the  contact information of the {  candidate  }  campaign  ; and

30   (2) the office that the candidate is seeking.

 

The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Dunnigan absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:       Rep. Poulson moved to pass H.B. 146 out favorably as amended. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Dunnigan absent for the vote.

 

H.B. 198           Ballot Proposition Amendments (Rep. J. Fawson)

 

Rep. Fawson explained the bill to the committee assisted by Ricky Hatch, Weber County Clerk/ Auditor, County Clerks Association.

 

MOTION:       Rep. Thurston moved to amend the bill as follows:

 

1.    Page 5, Lines 125 through 127:            

 

125 (iv) include with the argument the eligible voter's name, residential address, postal

126address, email address  if available  , and phone number.

127 [(vi) The arguments supporting and opposing any county or municipal ballot

 

2.    Page 8, Lines 218 through 220:            

 

218 (C) include with the argument the eligible voter's name, residential address, postal

219address, email address  if available  , and phone number.

220 [(ii) The election officer shall ensure that each argument submitted under Subsection

 

The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Powell absent for the vote.

 

MOTION:       Rep. Ward moved to pass H.B. 146 out favorably as amended. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Powell absent for the vote.

 

 

 

 

 MOTION:       Rep. Thurston moved to adjourn. The motion passed unanimously with Rep. Powell absent for the vote.
