8     General Description:
9          This bill makes a minor adjustment to a single state House district boundary to
10     reconcile Unites States Census data with the state map.
11     Highlighted Provisions:
12          This bill:
13          ▸     defines terms; and
14          ▸     makes changes to a state House district boundary to follow a change in the county
15     boundary between Cache and Box Elder counties.

25     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26          Section 1. Section 36-1-201.1 is amended to read:
27          36-1-201.1. Definitions.

28          As used in this part:
29          (1) "Census block" means any one of the 115, 406 individual geographic areas into
30     which the Bureau of the Census of the United States Department of Commerce has divided the
31     state of Utah, to each of which the Bureau of the Census has attached a discrete population
32     tabulation from the 2010 decennial census.
33          (2) "House block assignment file" means the electronic file that assigns each of Utah's
34     115, 406 census blocks to a particular Utah House district.
35          (3) "House shapefile" means the electronic shapefile that stores the boundary of each of
36     the 75 Utah House districts.
37          (4) "Shapefile" means the digital vector storage format for storing geometric location
38     and associated attribute information and includes the boundary change in Subsection
39     36-1-201.5(4)(b).
40          Section 2. Section 36-1-201.5 is amended to read:
41          36-1-201.5. Utah House of Representatives -- House district boundaries.
42          (1) As used in this section:
43          (a) "County boundary" means the county boundary's location in the database as of
44     January 1, [2010] 2017.
45          (b) "Database" means the State Geographic Information Database created in Section
46     63F-1-507.
47          (c) "Local school district boundary" means the local school district boundary's location
48     in the database as of January 1, 2010.
49          (d) "Municipal boundary" means the municipal boundary's location in the database as
50     of January 1, 2010.
51          (2) The Utah House of Representatives shall consist of 75 members, with one member
52     to be elected from each Utah House of Representative district.
53          (3) The Legislature adopts the official census population figures and maps of the
54     Bureau of the Census of the United States Department of Commerce developed in connection
55     with the taking of the 2010 national decennial census as the official data for establishing House
56     district boundaries.
57          (4) (a) Notwithstanding Subsection (3), and except as modified by Subsection (4)(b),
58     the Legislature enacts the district numbers and boundaries of the House districts designated by

59     the House shapefile that is the electronic component of [the bill that enacts this section] 2013
60     General Session H.B. 366, State House Boundary Amendments.
61          (b) The boundary between House District 1 and House District 5 in the shapefile
62     described in Subsection (4)(a) is changed to follow the county boundary of Box Elder County
63     and Cache County from the intersection of Cache, Box Elder, and Weber counties, north to the
64     intersection of House District 1, House District 3, and House District 5.
65          [(b)] (c) That House shapefile, and the legislative boundaries generated from that
66     shapefile, may be accessed via the Utah Legislature's website.
