8     General Description:
9          This bill allows investigations to be reviewed at the request of a victim.
10     Highlighted Provisions:
11          This bill:
12          ▸     creates a review process for open investigations.

21     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
22          Section 1. Section 11-58-101 is enacted to read:
23          11-58-101. Review of open investigation.
24          (1) A review of an investigation may be initiated:
25          (a) (i) by the victim;

26          (ii) by the family member of the victim of a homicide or first degree violent felony; or
27          (iii) by the family member of a missing person; and
28          (b) at least one year after the date of the incident that initiated the investigation and the
29     investigating agency has made no significant progress in solving the case.
30          (2) A victim or victim's family may seek review of an open investigation:
31          (a) first, by the chief executive of the law enforcement agency conducting the
32     investigation;
33          (b) second, by the county Ĥ→ or district ←Ĥ attorney in the jurisdiction in which the
33a     crime occurred or the
34     person went missing;
35          (c) third, by filing a complaint with the Office for Victims of Crime for review by the
36     District Victim Right's Committee; and
37          (d) finally, through a review by the Office of the Attorney General.
