7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill modifies provisions related to reporting criminal activity to the Bureau of
10     Criminal Identification.
11     Highlighted Provisions:
12          This bill:
13          ▸     prohibits the Bureau of Criminal Identification from acquiring certain information;
14          ▸     requires a law enforcement agency to:
15               •     report certain information to the Bureau of Criminal Identification within a
16     specified time frame;
17               •     submit that information in a specified manner; and
18               •     review and verify that information upon request of the Bureau of Criminal
19     Identification; and
20          ▸     makes technical changes.

29     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

30          Section 1. Section 53-10-205 is amended to read:
31          53-10-205. Uniform crime reporting system -- Reporting timelines and use of
32     data.
33          (1) The data acquired under the statewide uniform crime reporting system shall be used
34     only for research or statistical purposes and may not contain any information that may reveal
35     the identity of an individual victim of a crime or law enforcement officer.
36          (2) A law enforcement agency shall, for the jurisdiction of the law enforcement agency,
37     submit crime reporting data required for the statewide uniform crime reporting system
38     described in Section 53-10-202:
39          (a) to the bureau before the 16th day of the month after the month in which a reported
40     crime occurs; and
41          (b) in a manner prescribed by the bureau and in compliance with the requirements of
42     the Federal Bureau of Investigation's uniform crime reporting standards.
43          (3) Upon request of the bureau, a law enforcement agency shall review and verify
44     crime reporting data within 10 business days after the day on which the law enforcement
45     agency receives the request.
