16 General Description:
17 This concurrent resolution expresses support for Utah's Every Kid Outdoors Initiative.
18 Highlighted Provisions:
19 This resolution:
20 ▸ describes the benefits of children spending time outdoors;
21 ▸ expresses support for Utah's Every Kid Outdoors Initiative; and
22 ▸ describes Utah's Every Kid Outdoors Initiative.

26 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
27 WHEREAS, scientific research shows that children are spending more time inside than
28 previous generations, are increasingly distanced from nature, are engaging in less physical
29 exercise, and are at increased risks for poor health;
30 WHEREAS, research shows that time spent in nature can lead to physical, mental,
31 developmental, and behavioral health benefits;
32 WHEREAS, there is significant value in providing opportunities for children to
33 experience awe-inspiring moments while gazing upon the natural beauty of Utah's uniquely
34 spectacular outdoor places;
35 WHEREAS, quality time in the natural world encourages curiosity, and provides
36 hands-on field experience and experiential learning, resulting in improved learning across
37 various fields of science; and
38 WHEREAS, Utahns have a heritage of outdoor pastimes, agriculture and a relationship
39 to the land:
40 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
41 Governor concurring therein, recognizes that it is critical for the well-being and development
42 of Utah's children that we promote a healthy, active childhood filled with outdoor experiences
43 for Utah's children.
44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we hereby support Utah's Every Kid Outdoors
45 Initiative, which states that every child in Utah should have the opportunity to:
46 (1) observe nature and wildlife in Utah;
47 (2) explore Utah's parks, public lands, and wildplaces;
48 (3) experience The Greatest Snow on Earth;
49 (4) gaze at the starry sky;
50 (5) bring along a friend to discover nearby nature;
51 (6) splash in Utah's rivers, lakes, and streams;
52 (7) follow a trail;
53 (8) plant a seed;
54 (9) play on Utah's rocks and mountains; and
55 (10) be a steward and take care of Utah's outdoor places.
