9 General Description:
10 This concurrent resolution designates "Utah Girls in Tech Day."
11 Highlighted Provisions:
12 This resolution:
13 ▸ recognizes that women are significantly underrepresented in technology-related
14 fields despite a shortage of qualified talent;
15 ▸ encourages more young women to pursue technology-related careers; and
16 ▸ designates March 20 as "Utah Girls in Tech Day."

20 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
21 WHEREAS, according to the National Center for Women in Information Technology:
22 • 56% of Advanced Placement test takers are women, but only 19% of
23 Advanced Placement Computer Science test takers are women; and
24 • women earn 57% of all undergraduate degrees, but women earn only
25 18% of all undergraduate computer and information science degrees;
26 WHEREAS, according to the Department of Labor, by 2020 there will be more than 1.4
27 million computer software-related job openings, but there will only be enough graduates to fill
28 approximately 30% of those positions;
29 WHEREAS, despite a shortage of qualified talent, women are significantly
30 underrepresented in technology-related fields; and
31 WHEREAS, the Women Tech Council, educators, businesses, and other stakeholders
32 are strengthening the support network needed to encourage more young women to consider and
33 successfully launch technology-related careers and helping to fill the talent gap that is currently
34 hindering our nation's economy:
35 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
36 Governor concurring therein, designates March 20 as "Utah Girls in Tech Day" to help
37 encourage more young women to consider jobs in technology-related fields.
