22 LONG TITLE
23 General Description:
24 This concurrent resolution recognizes LuAnn Adams for her service as the
25 commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Food.
26 Highlighted Provisions:
27 This resolution:
28 ▸ recognizes the dedication and public service of LuAnn Adams; and
29 ▸ expresses appreciation for LuAnn Adams' many contributions to the state of Utah.

33 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
34 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams was the first woman to lead the Department of Agriculture
35 and Food as the commissioner of agriculture and food and served in that capacity for more than
36 five years;
37 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams graduated from LDS Business College with an Associate's
38 degree;
39 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams served for 16 years as the Box Elder County Recorder and
40 Clerk from 1995 through 2011;
41 WHEREAS, during her time as the Box Elder County Recorder and Clerk, LuAnn
42 Adams designed the county's online Property Information System and led the Geographic
43 Information Systems division after absorbing the duties of the county surveyor when the
44 previous county surveyor retired;
45 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams served on a number of state boards, including the Utah
46 Association of Counties Board of Directors, the Utah Recorder's Association, the Utah State
47 University Advisory Board, and the National Association of Counties Agriculture and Rural
48 Affairs Steering Committee;
49 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams served as a Box Elder County Commissioner from 2011
50 through 2013;
51 WHEREAS, during her service as a Box Elder County Commissioner, LuAnn Adams
52 was instrumental in the creation of the state's first county-adopted sage grouse protection plan,
53 which protected local agriculture and other economic interests by helping to keep the sage
54 grouse off the federal Threatened and Endangered Species list;
55 WHEREAS, in her role as a Box Elder County Commissioner, LuAnn Adams also
56 started a $2.5 million improvement project at the Box Elder County Fairgrounds to help
57 increase tourism;
58 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams was appointed as Utah's seventh commissioner of
59 agriculture and food on December 20, 2013, and took office in January, 2014, overseeing
60 nearly 200 employees from eight divisions in the Department of Agriculture and Food that
61 administer a wide variety of programs including food safety for consumers, livestock grazing,
62 management of weeds and invasive plants, land and water conservation projects, and weights
63 and measures which ensure that gas pumps provide accurate amounts of fuel purchased;
64 WHEREAS, in her role as the commissioner of agriculture and food, LuAnn Adams led
65 the department's efforts to operate more efficiently and effectively;
66 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams led the state's efforts to create Utah's Own, a unified brand
67 and marketing campaign for gourmet food products from farmers across the state;
68 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams has a reputation as a consensus builder who can bring
69 together persons with different interests to realize goals and objectives; and
70 WHEREAS, LuAnn Adams' many significant state and local contributions merit
71 recognition:
72 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
73 Governor concurring therein, recognizes the dedication and public service of LuAnn Adams as
74 commissioner of agriculture and food and expresses appreciation for her many contributions to
75 the state.
76 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to LuAnn Adams.
