7     LONG TITLE
8     General Description:
9          This bill requires the Department of Transportation to lead in the creation of a statewide
10     electric vehicle charging network plan.
11     Highlighted Provisions:
12          This bill:
13          ▸     requires the Department of Transportation to lead in the creation of a statewide
14     electric vehicle charging network plan to provide electric vehicle charging facilities
15     along certain state highways;
16          ▸     requires the department to coordinate with other relevant state entities; and
17          ▸     requires the department to present the plan to the Transportation Interim
18     Committee.

27     Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:

28          Section 1. Section 72-1-215 is enacted to read:
29          72-1-215. Statewide electric vehicle charging network plan -- Report.
30          (1) (a) The department shall develop a statewide electric vehicle charging network
31     plan.
32          (b) To develop the statewide electric vehicle charging network plan, the department
33     shall consult with other relevant state agencies, divisions, and entities, including:
34          (i) the Department of Environmental Quality created in Section 19-1-104;
35          (ii) the Division of Facilities Construction and Management created in Section
36     63A-5-201;
37          (iii) the Office of Energy Development created in Section 63M-4-401; and
38          (iv) the Department of Natural Resources created in Section 79-2-201.
39          (2) The statewide electric vehicle charging network plan shall provide implementation
40     strategies to ensure that electric vehicle charging stations are available:
41          (a) at strategic locations as determined by the department by June 30, 2021;
42          (b) at incremental distances no greater than every 50 miles along the state's interstate
43     highway system by December 31, 2025; and
44          (c) along other major highways within the state as the department finds appropriate.
45          (3) The department shall provide a report before November 30, 2020 to the
46     Transportation Interim Committee to outline the statewide electric vehicle charging network
47     plan.
