8 General Description:
9 This bill amends provisions relating to state pay plans for peace officers.
10 Highlighted Provisions:
11 This bill:
12 ▸ defines "peace officer"; and
13 ▸ requires the executive director of the Department of Human Resource Management
14 to ensure that the state pay plans for peace officers include certain information about
15 salary range differences, qualifications, training, performance evaluation, and
16 promotion.

25 Be it enacted by the Legislature of the state of Utah:
26 Section 1. Section 67-19-12.6 is enacted to read:
27 67-19-12.6. State pay plans for peace officers.
28 (1) As used in this section, "peace officer" means:
29 (a) a correctional officer as defined in Section 53-13-104;
30 (b) a law enforcement officer as defined in Section 53-13-103; or
31 (c) a special function officer as defined in Section 53-13-105.
32 (2) In addition to the requirements of Section 67-19-12, the executive director shall
33 ensure that each state pay plan for peace officers:
34 (a) distinguishes the salary range for each peace officer classification;
35 (b) includes for each peace officer classification:
36 (i) the minimum physical and educational qualifications; and
37 (ii) any training requirements; and
38 (c) provides standards for:
39 (i) performance evaluation; and
40 (ii) promotion.
