9 General Description:
10 This concurrent resolution recognizes the contributions of the Utah Hospital
11 Association over the past 100 years.
12 Highlighted Provisions:
13 This resolution:
14 ▸ describes the history of the Utah Hospital Association;
15 ▸ notes the critical role of the Utah Hospital Association and its member hospitals in
16 providing health care to all Utahns;
17 ▸ describes the Utah Hospital Association's contributions to the community through
18 health care advocacy and various programs; and
19 ▸ recognizes and honors the Utah Hospital Association and its members for 100 years
20 of service to the state.

24 Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
25 WHEREAS, the Utah Hospital Association was incorporated on April 20, 1920, by six
26 Utah hospitals located in Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, and Logan;
27 WHEREAS, the Utah Hospital Association now represents all 62 of Utah's hospitals,
28 who collectively provide quality acute and specialty care to all Utahns;
29 WHEREAS, the member hospitals of the Utah Hospital Association employ over
30 50,000 Utahns and have a direct economic impact to the state of over $10 billion annually;
31 WHEREAS, the member hospitals of the Utah Hospital Association collectively
32 provide over $500 million of pure charity care to tens of thousands of Utahns annually;
33 WHEREAS, the member hospitals of the Utah Hospital Association regularly rank on
34 many national measures and help the state of Utah rank as one of the highest quality and lowest
35 cost states in healthcare in America;
36 WHEREAS, the Utah Hospital Association has been one of the trusted voices in
37 healthcare policy in Utah for many decades;
38 WHEREAS, the member hospitals of the Utah Hospital Association have been the
39 private sector backbone for the Medicaid program for many decades;
40 WHEREAS, the Utah Hospital Association has been a leading voice in improving
41 health policy in Utah for Medicaid, medical education, preventive care, healthy living, and
42 many other areas;
43 WHEREAS, the Utah Hospital Association is currently led by its President, Greg Bell,
44 former Lieutenant Governor of Utah, and by its Executive Vice President, Dave Gessel, who
45 has served as the legislative representative for the past 25 years; and
46 WHEREAS, on April 20, 2020, the Utah Hospital Association will celebrate 100 years
47 of service to the state of Utah and its residents:
48 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
49 Governor concurring therein, recognizes and honors the Utah Hospital Association and its
50 members for their 100 years of distinguished service to all Utahns.
