8     LONG TITLE
9     General Description:
10          This concurrent resolution recognizes the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
11     Highlighted Provisions:
12          This resolution:
13          ▸     recognizes the growing significance of Earth Day around the world and in Utah;
14          ▸     urges support for the goals of Earth Day to protect and sustain the unique valuable
15     environmental resources of Utah; and
16          ▸     recognizes Utah's business community efforts in promoting and taking action
17     towards improved environmental sustainability.
18     Special Clauses:
19          None

21     Be it resolved by the Legislature of the state of Utah, the Governor concurring therein:
22          WHEREAS, Earth Day was first celebrated in the United States on April 22, 1970;
23          WHEREAS, since founded, Earth Day has become a globally recognized celebration of
24     the need to demonstrate support for environmental protection;
25          WHEREAS, Earth Day is celebrated by over one billion people, making it the largest
26     secular holiday in the world;
27          WHEREAS, April 22, 2020, is Earth Day's 50th anniversary;

28          WHEREAS, over 50 businesses in Utah have pledged to make measurable positive
29     changes towards becoming more sustainable in 2020;
30          WHEREAS, businesses are also engaging in service projects during the month of April
31     2020, in support of Earth Day goals towards a more sustainable environment; and
32          WHEREAS, Earth Day is important to the citizens and businesses of Utah as a means
33     of reinforcing the importance of responsible stewardship of the earth's resources including
34     clean air, outdoor recreation opportunities, land conservation, water scarcity and availability,
35     and wildlife habitat restoration and conservation:
36          NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of the state of Utah, the
37     Governor concurring therein, emphasize and urge support of the goals of Earth Day to protect
38     and sustain the unique, valuable environmental resources of Utah.
39          BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and the Governor recognize Utah's
40     business community for their efforts in promoting and taking action towards improved
41     environmental sustainability.
